TalkFold is a native macOS application that records audio from any source, transcribes it on-device using WhisperKit, and lets you organize your transcripts. With a Pro subscription, you can also generate AI-powered summaries.
Which macOS versions are supported?
TalkFold requires macOS 14.0 Sonoma or later.
Does a bot join my calls?
No. TalkFold captures system audio natively on your Mac. No bot joins your call, and no one knows you're recording. It works with Zoom, Google Meet, Slack, Teams, or any other app.
Do I need an account to use the app?
No. Download and start using it immediately — no sign-up required. An account is only needed if you subscribe to Pro.
Privacy & Security
Is my audio sent to the cloud?
No. Transcription runs entirely on your device using the Whisper AI model. Your audio never leaves your Mac. The only outbound communication is when Pro users click "Summarize" — at that point the transcript text (not audio) is sent securely for AI processing.
Where are my recordings and transcripts stored?
Everything is stored locally on your Mac in a SQLite database. Nothing is synced to external servers. Each recording stays attached to its transcript so you can always go back and listen to the original audio.
What data does TalkFold actually collect?
Very little. For Pro subscribers we store: your email address (from Ko-fi, used only to deliver your license key), your license key, your subscription status, and a monthly request count for statistical analysis. That's it. We do not collect transcripts, summaries, audio, dictionary entries, shortcuts, or any content you create.
Can your servers access my transcripts or pull data from my Mac?
No. Communication is strictly one-way — only the app initiates requests to our API, never the other way around. Our servers have no ability to connect back to your device, read files, access your local database, or retrieve anything from your Mac. There is no background sync and no remote access of any kind.
How are the API endpoints secured?
Every meaningful endpoint requires a valid license key and matching device ID. Requests without valid credentials are rejected. There is no publicly accessible endpoint that returns user data or allows AI summarization without authentication — so an external party cannot use our API to access your data or consume LLM capacity. AI service API keys (OpenAI, Gemini) are stored as encrypted Cloudflare Worker secrets, never in source code.
How are emails handled? Are my email addresses stored?
Emails are sent via Resend, a third-party transactional email service. We do not run our own email infrastructure or SMTP servers. When you send a summary to an Email Group, the recipient addresses are passed to Resend for that delivery only — they are not stored on our servers afterward. The only email we retain is your subscription email from Ko-fi, used to deliver your license key.

What is the Dictionary feature?
The Dictionary lets you add words that Whisper often misspells — names, technical terms, acronyms. Variants are auto-corrected in transcripts and fed as context to improve recognition. Free users get up to 5 words; Pro users get unlimited.
What are Shortcuts?
Shortcuts are spoken phrases that expand to specific text. For example, say "my email" and it becomes your actual email address in the transcript. Free users get up to 5 shortcuts; Pro users get unlimited.
How do auto-formatted lists work?
When you say sequences like "first, second, third", TalkFold automatically converts them into clean numbered lists in your transcript.

How do I subscribe to Pro?
Subscribe at ko-fi.com/ainotestaker. Choose monthly ($4.99/mo) or yearly ($49.99/year — save 2 months free). You'll receive a license key via email. Open TalkFold, go to Settings → Pro License, paste your key, and activate.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, you can cancel anytime through your Ko-fi account. Your Pro features will remain active until the end of the billing period.
Can I use my license on multiple devices?
A Pro license is active for a single device. If you need to move your license to a different Mac, contact support@talkfold.app and we'll reassign it for you.
I lost my license key. How do I get it back?
Open TalkFold, go to Settings, and use the "Retrieve license key" option. Enter the email you used for the subscription and your key will be sent to you.
